A few words from Switch- 04-25-12

Please forgive the audio quality on some of these audio files and try to recognize and embrace the art. Cherish the ability of beginners in hip-hop music- a group of young individuals from Brooklyn, New York, who at the time felt they had nothing to lose and everything to gain. The developing minds and souls of artists who not only had the world to build on and build with, but
they also had each other, a group of great friends. This tape resembles a moment in time where we felt nothing could stop us.
We were a team and we had nothing but ideas and dreams to guide us forward. Some of us understood what we were doing when we
sat in that room and started writing what our hearts told us to, and some didn’t. That never made a difference as the the collective
grew into something we never expected, MUSIC!

Now the history behind it all goes way back before it was ever beats and rhymes. Lets start by a brief definition of 7:30 A.M. & P.M. and what it means to me. Soon after I graduated high school, I departed to college upstate New York. While I was there (which is another story in itself) I was designing clothes on paper and experimenting with spray paint and acrylics on garments. While approaching this new-to-me form of art I came up with the idea of a clothing line named 7:30. On the street being “seven thirty” means being CRAZY! Not just ‘crazy’ like the word we use on a daily basis, but CRAZY meaning mentally derailed. A person who is “seven thirty” is the type of person who does things a person with a logical mind might not do. I took some of that and ran with it, but as you can see because of its spelling it isn’t the same. It means TIME. OUR TIME. The clothing line was supposed to be split into two separate stylesÉ A.M. a style for the morning and early afternoon, maybe a more casual or sporty urban style.. and P.M. would be the the more serious, classic, and elegant nightlife dress up style. As we all know those ideas never reached too far and as I returned back home to Brooklyn after a failed attempt at college, Kevin aka Hollywood and myself joined forces and decided to each have a piece of 7:30 for ourselves and make music. We were already making music together, and some- like Bugz- were already making music on their own. We all came together as one big group split in half. I had A.M. and Kevin had P.M.

Theres nothing more important than love and friendship, and through that bond a seed was planted and it grew to the point where we
subconsciously competed against each other. We sat in that room daily with nothing but ambition and hunger, and before we knew it the quiet sound of “who had the best verse” and so forth made the brotherly competition push us past our never settling creative minds. We were 7:30. Many things happened in between the time we were all very close- and the time when we started to drift apart, and that all makes those memories ever more permanent. We fell in love with music more than anything and we tested to see what each one of us was made out of and in turn it made a timeless effect that made me grow as an individual and as an artist.

I would like to take the time now to thank everyone who was a part of this-

Thanks to all who were a part of this. Forgive me if i’ve missed some names, there were many-
Hollywood, Tigz, Drama, Young Bugz, Young Ant, Young X, Les, Bars, Xavy, Cash,  Aunt Margareet, Jack, Chiz, Ant Live, Slugga, Andy, Giovanni, Bernie, Momo, Bex!, Protostar,  Link up, Team Washup, Rat Pack, 2Man Team

Starbucks, Roosevelt Projects, Brooklyn- Bed Stuy, Bushwick, Williamsburgh, Tompkins, Vernon, Broadway and Flushing, Granham, Brownsville, East New York, Downtown Brooklyn, Fort Green, Manhattan- Midtown, Uptown, Washington Heights, Dyckman, Harlem, 125th, Downtown, Lower East Side, Queens- Sunnyside, Long Island City, and any other place, organization, neighborhood, and location in the city of New York that served as a meetup, place of inspiration or motivation that made this tape possible about 5 years ago.

oh.. and I really did have just a Dollar some how some way I always had 1 dollar in my pocket every single day before going to Tigz house.. I can think of many reasons why.. but I do know that I got me 2 loosies every single time..

Scram Jones- Hour Glass

I’m loving the visuals with this nostalgic feel of my old home, and the words to the song from the man tie it all in together for a piece of art.

From Bed Stuy To Bmore- 3 Years

I get asked all the time how long I’ve been in Baltimore, and without much thought I usually reply “I been here since Christmas of 2008” and let them do the math. It never really dawned on me until I realized that on the day Jesus Christ was born I left New York, 3 years ago, and restarted. I remember it like if it was yesterday and I cant but smile about the journey.

Coming to Baltimore was one of the only choices I had other than continuing on a ‘dead end’ path which was only going to end up bringing me back to the same end through a vicious spin cycle, washed up. I’m originally from the Dominican Republic, and at a tender young age my parents migrated to Brooklyn where I had been ever since. It isnt difficult for me to admit that this is one of the best choices I have made in my lifetime- leaving the big city where I was raised then born and re-uniting with my family who came to Baltimore a year before I did.

Brooklyn is really more than a borough, a city, It’s STRONG to me. Maybe like how you might feel about your hometown but more. Being from Bedford Stuyvesant all my life made me the opposite of who I should be today. It’s that deep. A pure product of my environment with a twist. If you ever heard about New York or ever lived in any borough except for Brooklyn you might have to admit that you thought twice before taking the trip. Known of course for its rich culture, music and the arts, It’s also known to be one of the meanest places in New York! Dont take my word for it though, just dont walk through any of the inner city areas alone, especially at night! If you are brave enough bring a camera because you might see some things!

See For the most part im an integral guy but every now and then the Brooklyn in me rears its ugly head out in the open, of course, who’s wouldn’t?! To avoid that I always liked to keep a tight circle. I have a strong intuition and usually my points of views and demeanor don’t fit right with many people, looking as if I should be from the hood, but speaking as if I went to a good school. I love Brooklyn, and it will be a part of me until the day I die, but the best part is that I used what I learned there for the better. So ITS ALLLL GOOOD!

I have 3 years in Baltimore, and my growth is unprecedented. 3 years in Baltimore and I am almost the individual I see myself becoming. In that short amount of time (which is a pretty long time to me) my progress has been more than of those who I met 3
years ago.  Its only been 3 years but I seen the good, the bad, and the ugly, I seen success and I seen failure and everything in between. These 3 years have been more than I could ask for but I am thankful and I am blessed. I have spent the last 3 years of my life here and fell in love several times over. 3 is one of my favorite number’s, so the meaning is deeper and this year I have a plan
to leave. Its that feeling you get when you know you have traveled a distance but understand that there’s even more ground to cover.

I’m happy to be here, change is great, I’m glad I visited.

Independent Film Premiere: Black Barbie

So yesterday was a great day for us. The story of who “us” are, goes way back and one day I might actually write about it. But anyways yesterday my good friend Allyn Camp got a preview of whats to come when his first directed feature film ‘Black Barbie’ SOLD OUT! Yes it was SO SOLD OUT that surprisingly we didn’t get shut down! After all the seats were filled up in the first screening room of The Charles Theater, the people just kept on coming in! I mean the entire entrance was blocked off and there were people sitting on the steps in between the isles, aside from the hallway with people that just COULDN’T get in (I was one of them). It was a great feeling for me watching last night unfold. I actually helped out a few times on a few scenes and participated in capturing some of the behind the scenes action as well. We had a lot of great people who helped all this happen, much respect to us all!

Still never let the feeling of accomplishment make us comfortable as we have a lot of work left to do. Actually I’m still editing the photos and hopefully they will be up later on tonight on TheStoryNevaEnds

In any case here is a synopsis written by the Director himself- you can find it at www.AlnysProductions.com

“Meet Bonnie Holliday, after a life changing event her family had to leave NYC.  They moved to Baltimore, Maryland for a fresh start.  Her brothers with their NY state of hustle took over the area and built an empire.  After one of her brothers was murdered and the other one sentenced to life in jail; she was left to run the family business at the age of twenty-one. As she rose to the top she was constantly at war with her male adversaries.  The DEA was closing in and her crew was falling like dominos or snitching. Welcome to the world of Baltimore “Murder Land” where most don’t survive to tell their story. Meet one of the few who lived it and left a mark in the game, Black Barbie.”

Black Barbie was written by Tra Verdejo

Happy Thanksgiving To All

image

Happy thanksgiving my people! I had a blast. My family decided to go celebrate in New York and what a trip that was because check it- We had to go and return to Baltimore in the same day. Now that’s a lot of driving. Especially with traffic we spent atleast 8 hours if not maybe more on the road in total. I offered to help but my father was in control. At the end of the day I believe it was all worth it though. I couldn’t move after I ate. We have a very big family! Check out the table!

Hope you all enjoyed yours!
